José Ignacio Linazasoro / ES
Famous Spanish architect and pedagogue, author of numerous theoretical books on the topic of architecture as well as publications on his own work. He is considered one of the greatest Spanish experts in the modern reconstruction of historic buildings. He drew attention to himself mainly with the reconstruction and conversion of the ruins of the San Fernando church in Madrid into a library (2006), for which he received the international Brick Award 2006, awarded to the best brick buildings. The reconstruction of the church in Santa Cruz (1985–1988) was similarly successful. However, Linazasoro also deals with new buildings. The leading place in his realizations is occupied by the University Library in Madrid (1993), whose inconspicuous exterior contrasts with the spectacular interior of the five-story cylindrical reading room.
