De-hardening; a catalyst for creating green & livable spaces

Studio Basta stands for liveable landscape and garden architecture. In all its projects the studio tries to create a fresh and uninhibited atmosphere, so that projects of all scale levels radiate a high usability value and informality. It perceives the landscape as a system in which every place has its meaning. The genius loci of the place and the existing dynamics of a space are always the basics for an intervention. In this way, every design integrates very evidently into the context. Furthermore, Studio Basta focuses on a liveable grain, the design of daily life, a complex empty (play) experience… This creates spontaneous, livelable and green spaces with an ordered nonchalant character. With a strong academic background, including a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, the studio approaches each project analytically and systematically. Every assignment starts from a concept, so that one clear idea guides the entire design process. The elaboration of each project is always done with a technical and management logic in mind. We always strive for feasible, manageable and budget-conscious solutions.

In the lecture De-Hardening: A Catalyst for Creating Green and Livable Places, they illustrate, using a few examples from their own work, how de-hardening contributes to greening, increased biodiversity, smarter water management, and enhanced livability.

The lecture will be held in English.
